2023 Sports Formal Dinner

The 2023 Sports Formal Dinner, held on Tuesday 19 September, saw our Woozas recognised for their achievements in the sporting arena across the academic year.

The event began with a In Conversation between Australian Paralympian Monique Murphy and Sport Convenor Stella Horton. Monique and Stella discussed resilience in sports and how participating in sports can provide a wide-range of mental health and physical benefits. An elite junior swimmer, Monique returned to swimming after a fall from a fifth-floor balcony. Monique brought with her the Silver Medal she won at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games in the 400m Freestyle S10 event – an achievement gained just 900 days after her accident.

Stella then presented our sporty Woozas with their awards, recognising the Convenors, Most Valuable Players, ICC Team and Most Improved award recipients from each sport. The coaches, many of whom are alumnae of the College, were also acknowledged. These presentations were followed by the announcement of the following special award winners:

  • Spirit of ICC Award Nominee: Zimena Furey
  • Mary Wooza Sport Award: Ella Peacock
  • Frances Wright Sport Award: Georgia McMullen
  • Sportswoman of the Year: Hayley Wright

The evening concluded with a special address by Stella, and a video presentation that was accompanied by Grace Finaly, who performed Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA.

We congratulate all sports award recipients and thank Stella Horton for her wonderful efforts throughout the year as the 2023 Sport Convenor.
